" Play, as children's language for self-expression, is deeply fostered and nurtured. ‘It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self..." (Winnicott, 2005)

The radical and challenging element of the model, for both children and mothers, is reaching the balance between dependence and independence. For mothers it is about finding the ability, within a safe and inspiring space, to introduce the child to their creative practices without judgment; for the children it is about finding the ability to reach their independent (emotional) space, having their mothers close by (privileged emotional space). By developing the capacity for the children to manage attachment and organically finding this balance, we see the child’s growth and the artists.

The environment is recognised for its potential to inspire children. An environment filled with natural light, multimedia resources and open-ended play opportunities.

The model provides free-flow spaces where every tool and material is considered for its purpose. Every interaction evolves into a learning opportunity to help develop the child's interests.

The adult is a mentor and guide. Our role as adults is to observe our children, listen to their questions and their stories, find out what interests them and then provide them with opportunities to explore these interests further. The projects are not planned in advanced, they emerge based on the child’s interests.
